Great State Cup Win!

Posted by Rob Axtell at Apr 10, 2011 10:22PM PDT ( 6 Comments )

Congratulations to the girls and Coaches Ged and Hai for a true turnaround performance on Saturday against the Richmond Kickers Elite. After the opponent completely dominated the first half and the Real Force was kept in the game solely by virtue of Rachel’s tremendous goalkeeping, Ged challenged the girls to play better soccer. They responded well to his admonitions and the second half was a much more even affair. Richmond scored first but two quick Real Force goals were enough for a 2-1 victory. Great game everyone! Good Start to the Spring Season!

Posted by Rob Axtell at Apr 5, 2011 10:39AM PDT ( 1 Comment )

The team put up a lot of offense on Saturday and Sunday in two wins to start the WAGS season. Great to see the girls scoring in batches, 4-3 vs the St. Mary’s Rockets and 4-1 vs the Westminster Lady Wolves. Strong defense, especially Sunday, was a significant achievement with so many injuries to the back line. Click here (http://www.potomacsoccerwire.com/news/458/15827) to see a brief mention of the team’s accomplishments in the “Potomac Soccer Wire.”

Normal practices this week. Next up is Saturday’s State Cup game in Richmond, 2 PM (see calendar event at right). No WAGS game this weekend.

With the team suffering many significant injuries, those girls healthy enough to play put in a strong effort in the Fiesta League Championship game against the Annandale (ABGC) Chilipeppers. Jacquelyn made the score 1-0 in the fist half with a low, quick shot the keeper could not handle. In the second half Nikki blasted the ball in from 20 yards out for a 2-0 lead. Then Lizzy finished the RF scoring a few minutes later. 3-0. ABGC put on a furious rush in the final minutes, earning 2 goals as time ran out in a 3-2 RF win. Everyone played hard and Rachel had a very strong game in goal. A t-shirt was the reward for winning and we have them for all the girls who could not make it. Special thanks to guest player Emily from Sterling. Great job this winter, girls!
